In-form Serie A force Bologna hosts Verona with its eyes on a place among the top four

One of the most exciting rising powers in Italian soccer can temporarily take its place among Serie A’s top four on Friday if Bologna can extend its winning streak to five straight games at home to Hellas Verona. After a brief lull in results, the Greyhounds have rediscovered their bark and are looking hungry to qualify for next season’s Champions League after a win at Lazio last weekend. And they’ll look to ensure the Week 26 clash against the Mastiffs is anything but a dogfight as they seek out a fourth straight home win, having not lost at the Stadio Renato Dell’Ara since August.

Bologna boasts the best home record of any team in Serie A and has lost a joint-league low of just once in front of its own fans this season.

Only table-topping pair Inter Milan and Juventus can match that record, but Bologna has so far taken more points at home (32) than any other team, albeit with Inter having played one game fewer.

Nonetheless, ex-Inter midfielder Thiago Motta will look to ensure his side continues their remarkable run of form and temporarily leapfrog Atalanta into the Champions League qualifying places.

And their chances look good considering Verona has failed to score in two meetings with the Rossoblu already this season, most recently losing 2-0 at the Stadio Renato Dell’Ara in October.

Bologna will look to follow up that Coppa Italia triumph with a repeat under league conditions, while Verona will be out to end an eight-year winless run at this venue.

Marco Baroni’s men have lost just two of their last six outings but have also only won once across that span, leaving them 17th in the table and on the precipice of the relegation zone.

Failure to win on Friday could leave the Venetians susceptible to dropping into the bottom three this weekend, with Verona targeting its first road victory in any competition since August 19.
